What I Wore Wednesday - Vacation Portrait

This is the outfit I wore for our portraits on vacation.  You may see this image on the upcoming Tiny Twig redesign...who knows?  Consider it a sneak peek if you will.  :)

The shirt is from Madewell, the little and slightly edgier sister of J. Crew.  I am in love with this shirt--well worth the money for a little added style.  The skirt is a chambray paperbag-ish skirt from Target last year.  I wear it a lot with a vintage T and flats.  It's super easy and has a nice forgiving waist (would have been cute while pregnant!).  The belt and shoes are from Old Navy in previous years.  I always check Old Navy for trendy shoe and belt options.  They generally go on super sale--and you can grab some cheap things that you know you just want to get a season or two out of. 

My cute bangle is from my grandma.  She wore it in her glory days, and passed it along to me this Christmas along with a lot of her other "not good" jewelry.  And by "not good" she meant it was all in a ziploc baggie and contained more plastic than diamonds.  :)  But, there were some awesome finds in there--and a lot of the plastic necklaces I am restringing to update their style.

How to Pick Outfits for Family Portraits :: Final Product

You may remember this post about selecting outfits for your family portait.  I gave some practical tips and showed you the wardrobe I'd selected for our family.  Since we have since gone on vacation (the easiest time, when we're all together!) and endured the portrait process with 5 kids ages 5 and under, I figured I'd show you how the results differed from the plan.

The plan was never a set-in-stone edict, instead it was more a guide or a formula to help show my family the direction I was planning.  They didn't need to purchase the exact outfit--although, I did end up purchasing (and subsequently returning) most of the pieces in the "plan".  For some people, we found outfits we liked even better.  For others, they already owned a piece that would work.

You can see that we kept with the theme and the vision of the plan, but went a different direction with many of the pieces.  I found a great sale at Crazy 8 and got picked up my nieces's dress for a song.  My sister-in-law didn't love her shorts, so we with something she was more comfortable in.  I found some shorts for about $15 for Husband and he wore a shirt that he already had.  It was about a billion-ty degrees, so I traded the big bell bottoms for a cute chambray skirt I had packed just in case.

And, I'll bet you can't even tell that Cooper (Twig2) is wearing girl shorts.  :)  I was in such a frenzy making sure everyone else had their outfits selected and packed...I forgot to pack appropriate shorts for Coop.  Luckily, his 5 year old cousin (the pretty little girl in the dress, above) had a single pair of jean shorts.  We just hiked them up, secured them with the pink glitter belt that came with the shorts, and pulled his shirt down to conceal the whole mess.  See, that's just the proof that family portraits are all about catching ONE moment...not about an idealistic happy 3 hour photo session.  :)

You might try throwing together something like this next time you are working on your family portraits.  Your photographer might even provide a similar service.  It makes the whole thing run much more smoothly and everyone looks pretty cohesive.  One thing I wish I had thought of was to have the kids kick off their shoes...but I'll take that small oversight for this priceless image.  :)

What I Wore Wednesday - Seventh Edition

Ah, I love the wide-leg superbells that are gaining speed right now.  They take me back to my days in high school wearing Silver Jeans superbells and Goodwill T-Shirts.  I had them hemmed to fit a little better, but other than that they are easy as pie. 

I got mine in store for $12.99--and that was when they were still full price online for $70!  Love it when that happens, and it makes the price of tailoring not hurt so much.

What I Wore Wednesday - Sixth Edition

This pair of brown pants can be worn a few different ways, which I love. They are from Old Navy several years ago.  Totally just rolled them up to make them a little more "of the moment".

The outfit on the left was when I went out with some girlfriends for dinner.  I just threw on a pair of chunky wedges and batwing (who names these things?!) shirt...breezy cool.  The second outfit is my normal day to day kind of outfit.  The kind for grocery shopping and minivan cruising (can I proclaim my undying love for my little VW minivan?!).  Gap City Flats make the whole outfit better for getting things done.

Now that I'm back in my normal clothes (although, the fit is still somewhat sketch on some of it, thanks Mr. Asher!) I'll be back linking up with Lindsey of the Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesdays.

What I Wore Wednesday - Fifth Edition

Okay.  I've been sick, my boys have been sick, and we've been pretty much around the house.  (Why were we NEVER sick when we lived in Charlotte and we seem to be a walking incubator for germs in Indiana??)  This means, I didn't look cute and my house looks worse.  :)  More caring for sickies than my appearance or the cleanliness of our home.  It was okay last week, but the lack of upkeep has made for kind of a melancholy start to this week.  I feel scattered and fragmented when things feel like they are unraveling and undone.  Good thing there is a remedy for that!  A little time spent on self and a little time dedicated to getting our house back to it's prime working order. 

Here's my outfit for the week.  Yes, I did wear clothes the other days.  That would be super awkward if I didn't.  :)

I'm losing motivation to look cute...I'm running out of clothes to look cute in.  :)  I don't want to spend more money on maternity clothes, when I could spend that money on cute summer clothes for after the baby comes.  What's a girl to do?
